Pallet Town: Harmony of a Champion by Cronoan Pallet Town: Harmony of a Champion by Cronoan
Hey everyone! For the last several months, I've been Art Director for the super talented art team on the Harmony of a Champion fan arrangement album project. Shinesparkers is running it, and the trailer looks and sounds AWESOME. Feel free to check out the project trailer here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA7vjc…

So this is my take on Pallet Town. The project limitations were no people, and the pokemon in the piece should be hidden or at least inconspicuous to add this feeling of mystique. We decided to also have a theme in the art of using only two main colors for the entire piece, chosen by me to represent each town's color and theme as much as possible. The idea was so that once these are displayed side by side, they'll look like all the colors of the pallet more or less. It was so challenging to make it work!

Pallet Town was a little tougher to choose colors for, cause there's no main color theme here. We ended up using dawn colors of green + pink to represent the beginning of the journey. I got to really explore some landscape painting techniques in this piece, but I was really pushing deadline by this point so it's not quite as finished as Cerulean to me. Originally I'd put Mr. Mime's hand in the window like waving, you know like a nod to the anime. But I was told it was creepy and had to take it out(it was totally creepy too). Why does everyone want to squash my dreams?! :XD:

I hope you enjoy! :D

Check out my other in this series if you like!

Hey Heather, I didn't now you were the art director for the new harmony project, that's pretty neat. So this is the silva smudge one eh? It's cool that you pushed for some extremely detached re-imagining of the locations, this is the pinkest Pallet Town I've ever seen!

Haha, thanks Kurt! Yep this is the one! You can see his influence there in the grass and the trees. The detached idea was more Darren than me, he really wanted the environments to be front and center without distractions, to go with the cinematic feel of the album. I just came up with the two color palettes concept and kept everyone brushed up on their color theory as it went along. The art team was really very good, I didn't have to do much. And yes, this thing came out really saturated didn't it? That was another part of the overall concept, we really wanted these pieces to push color hard. It's still like an explosion for the eyes though. :P

The detached comment was more about how totally unusual the locations look, to the point where it's basically unrecognizable from the original source and just going off the basic idea of it. Pallet Town is always green hilly farmlands so pink is pretty nutty. I can definitely tell you picked a color and just went with it, pink for pallet and blue for cerulean. I wonder what other locals will get the rainbow treatment?

Ahh, it looks idyllic!  These are different from what you've done but they're very beautiful.

It is totally different from my usual thing, but I learned so much from it and loved branching out in this. Thanks for the kind words!
