Update - Wii U, Cleaning up my Gallery!

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 5, 2015, 12:30 PM
Hey everyone! So my life is finally settling into some kind of normalcy and I'm able to commit more time to being a fan art junkie. I have grown a lot as an artist since joining DA back in the stone ages, so I finally went through my gallery and cleaned up and retired a lot of older work. It was getting kind of embarrassing to show someone my gallery and then sweat while they track back through all the old terribad paintings I have. But I think it shows a good skill progression, so I didn't want to archive them either. Now, they're just on their own in a "Retired Old Work" folder for anyone curious enough to care about my growth. *Fair warning: upon entering the retired folder, your eyes may spontaneously start bleeding. Apply liberal use of kitten gifs to the affected area at once.*

The Wii U is quickly becoming my favorite console, but not because of Wii U games. It's all the AMAZING classics they keep releasing to virtual console! I have completely gotten addicted to the Golden Sun franchise again. I may have to do some fanart soon, because this game is just incredible. I'm also working through Paper Mario and DK 64. I'm LOVING all the things! The best part is being able to play it like a handheld with the tv off. I can just go play in bed if I want to. I'm having such an awesome time.

I have a lot of projects in the works for the second half of the year. I'm going to really start pushing myself as an artist. I've been too complacent with my own average abilities, and I want to start putting in the effort to become a real master. Several collaborations are keeping me busy, and I'm finally planning to work on the big Kraid piece once I clean up my art schedule. I've already started gathering references and working up a sketch. It feels good to be back in action.

Harmony of Heroes is Released!!

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 28, 2014, 4:21 PM
Alright guys, the incredible album Harmony of Heroes was released Saturday for free download! It came out to a whopping 101 tracks, and I can honestly say I love all of them. My favorite so far is "Kong Kollektive," a remix of the original DK Rap from DKC 64. I can't stop listening to it, it's so much fun! To the team, thanks so much for letting me be part of this awesome project. It's been the biggest honor of my artistic career to work with you all.

Siblings Day!

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2014, 5:19 AM
I wasn't going to, but I had to share this. My baby brother wrote me a piano song for Siblings Day. He's a bit coarse in the video cause he's a meathead, but he is really talented to just make up music while playing and have it come out good. We live half the country apart, so I miss him something fierce. :XD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXtJXM…

In other news, I close on my house in just 2 weeks! I hope nothing crazy happens to prevent it. I've been one big ball of anxiety for weeks. Also, Paper Mario Sticker Star where have you been all my life? This game is incredibly fun. It has a lot of the spirit of Super Mario World, in a Paper Mario game! Loving it. :D

Rediscovering Nintendo!

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 9, 2014, 6:08 AM
Yay! hey guys, so I'm on a new Nintendo kick I just had to share. I'm not even sure how it happened. Last weekend my boyfriend bought me a Wii U for our anniversary, and I've just been going NUTS ever since. I broke out my old Wii, downloaded a bunch of virtual console classics to it, and I've been going back and forth between new and old in a happy Nintendo binge.

But I must say, the HD version of Windwaker on the Wii U is BEAUTIFUL!! Oh it's so much better than most "HD remastered" titles. I mean, they added so much detail to EVERYTHING. Clouds cast shadows on the water, anything made of wood has all the grains painted into it in detail, the vines you climb up are vibrant and distinct now. There's added lighting effects and stronger sunlight in key areas like certain dungeons. It really is a whole new experience. Plus I love having my items, sea chart, and menu stuff all on the gamepad to peruse while sailing to my next destination. And don't even get me started on the message in a bottle miiverse thing. Sounds dumb at first, then you're into it! I pick up people's bottled messages everywhere I go, even if I have to almost get hit by a shark snagging one. I love this game!

I'm also replaying Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario, gonna start Mario 64, need to buy Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, gotta start the Prime Trilogy again, and I'm seriously about to break out the SNES for Super Mario World and Link to the Past. Haven't been on a Nintendo spree like this in years. I might have to bang out some fanart or something before I have a hernia.

Love you guys!

Buying a House!

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 27, 2014, 12:59 PM
EDIT: I got the house!! :D

Hey guys! IRL entry incoming! Yeah so I'm buying my first house. I put an offer on it today and should be closing in a day or two. I can't wait to move in and get started with my blank slate. The basement is huge and finished, so it's gonna be my paint station/game room/office. Mmmmhmmm. Gonna put up as many posters as I can and geek it up like crazy. I'll post some pics once I have it all done up. Yeah so I can't wait. Wish me luck!

Back At It!

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 3, 2014, 10:14 AM
Yeah it's been almost a year since my last entry, it has been a crazy year! I packed up my life and moved to the north(grew up on the beach, culture shock!) in hopes of finding a job in my field. Found one! My first career job ever. I didn't expect to actually find a job, so my whole life has been upside down for 9 months and I'm only just now getting back to myself a little.

Cap all that with meeting someone incredible and getting to know him and his kids, juggling my job and my new life, trying to let go of home a little and start all new, and it has been a wild ride.

Tl;dr I'm painting again after the longest hiatus I've ever had. And damn it feels good to be back. I feel a little more like myself again.

I'm working on a few projects just trying to get back in the swing of things. I'm so rusty. I have FINALLY started working on a Kraid wallpaper, but that's a ways out. I want to get the old skills back before really committing to it yet.

Here's a teaser of a transition piece I'm doing for fun. I LOVE painting faces, but I need a lot more practice.

Taking up the Metroid Mantle(Again)

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 31, 2013, 8:26 PM
I'm back again, yo! Finally getting back to digital painting and metroid work. Man, I've missed it. I've gotten more skilled on my 16 month sabbatical so here's hoping I can bring some good stuff to the table that brings the series proper justice.

To get back in the swing of things, I'm working on a commission series with :iconreanimat0rx: for his Metroid based fanfic, "The Metroid Files#1." First installment is below.

Neara Lelani by Cronoan

I'm doing some collaboration work with my close friend Jen :iconzenevaydragon973: cause her sketches and conceptual stuff are amazing and I love painting her work. :XD:

I'm currently working a job in the field of architecture FINALLY, so my life is taking on a rhythm at last. I'm able to actually tackle things on my bucket list that have been sitting there for years. Met a guy who really lets me spread my wings too, so my life is getting on track. Maybe it'll be reflected in my work? We shall see...

I'm playing Chrono Trigger and Mass Efect 1-3, as well as going on a SNES and Genesis gaming spree soon. Life is good man. :D

Metroid Kick (Whut a Surprise)

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 26, 2011, 2:29 PM
Yep so I'm back on my Metroid binge. The series I'm currently working on as a homage to Metroid is several digital paintings of various bosses from the Metroid universe. Obviously, each boss has to have a significance to me personally, so I won't be doing ALL of them.

Daytona Beach First Presentation

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 17, 2010, 7:30 PM
So here are some pics of my graduate class' first presentation in Daytona. We're working on a community redevelopment project for the planning commission, and we'll be presenting to the community at two month intervals until summer. It's a lot of work, but we had a great time and it's gratifying to have a real project to work with. And I'm the chick in blue. We had technical difficulties so I spent our presentation manning the projector. :P

Renovations

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 20, 2010, 9:19 AM
Yeah so it's about time I updated my gallery to reflect my current skill level. Rather than take down all of my old work, what I'm going to try to do is embark on a project to redo most of the good ones. I'll still keep all of my old stuff in scraps to show the change in quality over the years, but my gallery is getting some major renovations. Wish me luck! Nothing is harder than revisiting old work. :P

Architecture School and the Road Ahead

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 23, 2010, 8:23 PM
Hey guys! It's been awhile since I was properly active here, and a lot of that is due to a couple of commissions I've been working on. So I have to share what's going on right now.

The first day of my grad year started today and it's CRAZY. All the years I've been studying architecture we've kept to smaller scale commercial design projects like branch libraries and mixed use mid-rises, single student projects that are fictional. This semester, not only have they informed us that we're to be precise and accurate cause we're grad students, but we now have real projects that the school is being commissioned and paid for. AND these projects are on a huge scale. The big one is that we're to work in teams of 4 to work with the Daytona Beach Midtown district community on a redevelopment of the historic Midtown District. We have to meet with the community 4 times this semester to keep them updated on our progress and gain feedback on what they'd like to see in their community.

The other project is for Haiti and it's a village template we're to design for the Haiti rebuilding projects. They're calling it green village, and it's supposed to be an agricultural village that can survive flooding and earthquakes. Each house has to be no more than $1500 cost of materials. My professor says he's not even sure if it's possible, but we're gonna see if it is. What we do now will span into next semester where some of our students will be in Haiti providing consultation for the project.

Anyway, it's exciting but super overwhelming. I'm really not prepared for all this so wish me luck. I graduate in the spring!!

Also, I've noticed a sad lack of good Donkey Kong Country fan art out there. It's one of my all time favorite game series and ranks higher than Zelda, so I'm saddened by the lack of taste. I'll be doing my best to pump out some awesome DKC art as soon as I finish my commission work. Plus I super suck at forests and need the practice. ;)

Bachelor's of Architecture

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 13, 2010, 8:01 AM
Yeah so I finally got accepted into the 5th year (grad) program of architecture at my university. They only accepted 15 students out of our graduating year of about 60, so I'm really happy I made it. We had to submit a portfolio, resume, and letters of recommendation to get in, so it was rough for awhile getting it all together. Then the months of waiting to hear back... So yeah, I'm in! One more year of heavy duty college and I'll have my bachelor's in architecture degree!

Also, the semester's wrapping up and I have moving out to do to return home for the summer, then job hunting, catching up with my family for awhile, so I won't have much time for art for a little while. Sadness :(

I'll continue my Metroid series asap, and I have a few other pieces I'm contemplating in the meantime. :D

Next is either Mother Brain or Kraid. :headbang:

Flaahgra's been pissing me off. -_-

I'll continue my Metroid series first cause I'm in the mood, and I have a few other pieces lined up afterward. :D

Switching Gears

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 18, 2009, 10:43 AM
As many of you have probably noticed, I've been working on a series of Metroid Boss battle paintings for the last month. It's been a lot of fun, and I'm not done with it yet, but I'm gonna switch gears and probably start working on some other game fanart I've been wanting to play around with. It will enable me to vary my style some as well. I've already sketched out some fun ideas, I just didn't want you guys to think I'd given up on my Metroid bosses entirely. ;P

Obsessed

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 15, 2009, 9:28 PM

So lately I'm completely obsessed with drawing and painting, digitally and traditionally. Don't you just love it when the art bug strikes?? I haven't had an artistic growth spurt like this one since I learned to draw anime 6 years ago.

So yeah, I seriously do nothing all day except eat, go to class, and stare sightlessly into one drawing after another for hours and hours working like a woman possessed. It's freaking great. It'd just be cool if I was more motivated to do the things I actually need to, like homework and test studying. (I'm not even playing any video games atm)

Currently I'm possessed with the need to paint a series of Metroid boss fights from the various games, in no real order as of yet. Draygon from Metroid 3 is up first, so check it out when I get him posted here in a day or two!! :D
